Today is our 5th day in Japan. Yesterday we got
to wear a yukata at the takoyaki party. One of my must-to-do things in Japan
was to wear a kimono/yukata. It was a good experience to try on traditional Japanese
clothing. Thank you to the Kobe Gakuin University students for all of their
help! They helped us put on our yukatas as well as style our hair. After we put
on our yukatas, we got to make our own takoyaki. It was really fun to make with
various ingredients including octopus, sausage, corn, cheese, kimchi, plum, and
etc. My favorite takoyaki had chocolate filling inside of it. After the takoyaki
party, we headed over to Kita Park near the Kobe harbor to light up fireworks
with our pen pals. It was a fun time getting to know more about my pen pal.
Today, we listened to lectures about the Japanese health care
system, including prescription handling and herbal medicine. It was interesting
how the dispensing fee in Japan is different from U.S. Japan’s dispensing fee
included a basic technical fee, dispensing charge, pharmacy administration fee,
drug product fee, and fee for medical supplies. The lecture after lunch was
about herbal medicines. We enjoyed making kakkon-to, which composed of 8g of
pueraria root, 4g of ephedra, 4g of jujube, 3g of cinnamon bark, 2g of
liquorice root, 1g of ginger, and 500ml of water. Since I am interested in learning
about herbal medicines, I found the lecture fascinating. My mom usually boils
water with jujube, ginger, and pears when a family member suffers from a cold.
I am excited to pass down the kakkon-to recipe to family and friends.
I am 100%
enjoying this trip because every day we walked a lot to visit many popular sightseeing
locations and ate good food. I love the food and people! Thank you everyone!
