The Past Few Days

This trip has been amazing so far! On our first real day in Japan, we went on a tour around Kobe Gakuin University, which was absolutely beautiful. The campus is so huge and has an amazing view. I felt like I could just sit by the water and do homework peacefully. When we got to the end of our tour, we were surprised by our pen pals. They made the cutest welcome banner, and we exchanged gifts.  I have never had a pen pal before so it was nice to experience something like this especially with someone from a different country. At night, we went to the Hanabi Festival to watch the best fireworks display I have ever seen!

The next couple of days we were able to experience a lot of history in Japan. We went to see an old temple called Toudaiji Daibutsu with a huge buddha statue. The architecture was absolutely amazing, and I was surprised to see how creative and skilled people were back then to create a temple like that. Also, the next day we saw the Himeji Castle. Not a single enemy could take over the castle because this was built with many pathways and hidden doors. I was surprised to see how well the castle was maintained after many years. I thought it was interesting to be walking barefoot in the castle because it is a public area, but I did understand that it is part of the Japanese culture to take off your shoes to avoid getting the floors dirty.

So far all of the lectures that we have been to have been really interesting. What I really enjoyed doing was being able to use an oblate, which is a thin paper that you use to hold the medication and administer it to children. Most of the medication that the Japanese use is in powder form, which I thought was easier on the company that provides the medication, as well as the pharmacist that administers it to the patient since he/she will be able to weigh out the right amount of the powder for the patient.

I am excited to see what is in store for the next few days!
