Review of The LockUp - Sannomiya
The LockUp is a chain of horror/asylum/hospital themed bars where the customers are prisoners and the wardens, waitresses and waiters are seemingly malicious and evil. I ran across this gem in Shinjuku and had a blast with them and was very surprised to see it in Sannomiya, Kobe. After getting the majority of the COP group hyped up for some nightlife, we figured it'd be a great place to check out after a day of travel!
As we entered, we were led into a narrow corridor. The lights went out, doors locked and a horror house shakedown began! When the door unlocked we were met with a very nice warden and treated to the usual Japanese polite and courteous hospitality. This was almost disappointing considering how on edge we were. Led to a room that was two cell widths, it comfortably sat a group of 14 which is impressive in Japan. Our warden closed the jail cell doors until she came back for orders and that's when the fun began.
Our drinks, alcoholic or not were all unique in their own way. Beakers, graduated cylinders, test tubes, blood bags, syringes, petri dishes and Erlenmyer flasks began filling up our table as well as our BAC %. (Pics soon)

Just when we thought the night was over, Dr. Katz hooked it up with some pizzas which were delicious and hit the spot. Oh yeah. Dr. Katz was there making sure we had excellent hands on practice with all the lab equipment and getting the most out of this educational experience. Turns out, the pizza was the perfect excuse for us to stay and get the full fright of The LockUp.
Right before our check, the entire floor lost power except for a few emergency lights...eerie music began to play as a haunting voice echoed chants in Japanese. Then, they came for us. The floor was in chaos. From the left, from the right - we couldn't predict where but the haunted souls of the asylum broke free and were terrorizing our cell and the other prisoners/customers. They slammed our doors, ran into our cells to stare down our souls, climbed along the rails, crawled along the floors and jumped from the second floor onto our cage roof while we were trapped helplessly in our prison. Sarina got scared into a corner, Sandy got cursed and even the brave Dr. Katz was shocked to his very soul defending the rest of the students. Eventually it all subsided and we were free to go!

I highly recommend The LockUp to anyone traveling to Japan. It's one of many themed bars and I'm happy for everyone who got to enjoy it with me!
