This trip has been such an amazing experience so far! When we landed in Japan I was nervous because of the language barrier but every single person I have had the chance to meet has been so kind. We had the pleasure of meeting some of the Kobe Gakuin University students and faculty, and I am thankful for the opportunity. I have made many friendships/memories that I know I will never forget. The students and faculty welcomed us with open arms and had so much planned for us. We went to watch a firework show, and it was the best firework show I have ever seen in my life. The firework shows in America are nothing compared to what we saw.
We have done so many things on this trip, and I have been open to a
lot. I am someone who has a weak stomach so the food was definitely a
challenge for me. Not only do I have a weak stomach, but I also do not
know how to use chopsticks. I tried learning before I came to Japan but
could not master it. Kim was sweet and bought me training chopsticks which made my life a lot easier! One thing that I thought I would never try was
octopus. However, the fish market we visited is known for their octopus.
Since it was a well known item, I knew I had to try it. Unfortunately,
I wasn't a fan as you can see in the video.
Another one of my favorite experiences has been when the students hosted
a takoyaki party. The female students were so kind to come to the
university earlier that day to learn how to put the yukata on the
students from the University of Arizona. I was so stoked to get this
experience because I love different cultures and I felt so beautiful in
the yukata. I sent a picture to my mother an she told me that we all
looked like Japanese models.
This trip has been amazing so far and I am sad to be leaving in a few days.
